Day 6: Still in Kennebunkport

bj
Another round of golf for dad; so I went shopping!  Bought another bag! A lovely canvas carry-all :)  Then we went out on the Schooner Eleanor, a 50 foot 4 sailboat.  We sailed in the ocean about 2 miles from shore.  We saw the Bush compound; apparently the (former) President is in Kennebunkport right now and we saw a couple of the speedboats (secret service, we assume) heading into the compound to pick him up for a ride.   While we didn't see him (Dad was really disappointed that he didn't "show up" for the Birthday Party), apparently the Bush's and Peers' are friendly -- they attend the same church, and later this week, the Peers' family is invited by the Bush's to attend a special viewing of a film (I don't know the name) made by some Chinese director.

Later that night we attended yet another "out of towner" event -- a cocktail party at the Peers' home.  Lots of food and drink, laughter and friendship.   Tomorrow we head to Saint John, New Brunswick -- ahead of Hurricane Earl.

Mike
Got to play once again at Jim's home club Webhanet with Jim Simpson, Chip, myself and the VP of the club , Elliot Speers, made up the second foursome as part of their weekly Men's day tournament. I played awful, I guess the heat and the humidity finally got to me. Shot a 95 which was 10 shots more than what I shot on the Tuesday. Especially after I shot an 87 on another course Old Marsh the day before. The bugs were all biting once again even at 8:00 am in the morning.

Back to the B & B for a quick shower change before off on the 2 hr sail. Rather boring as the water was smooth and not very exciting. I was hoping for some greater speed and  more action. But too many' landlubbers' on board so the captain had to take it easy on the passengers.

The cocktail party at Jim & Sylvia's house was only for the out of town visitors again and by now we were all on a first name basis. All of them were very friendly and easy going. Especially Mike and  Jackie Brennan and Dan and Cathy Finn from Chicago. Jim & Syl 's house was full of art work, scuptures and unique pieces of art that they have collected on their many trips over seas and to Asia. Sad to see all of the festivities come to an end as we were all off on our separate ways the next morning. Lots of hugs and kisses as we made our good byes. Off to the Maritimes tomorrow just ahead of Hurricane Earl. Should be interesting.
