Day 11: Still in PEI

bj
Today we headed up to Cavendish, where the author of Anne of Green Gables (Lucy Maud Montgomery)  lived.  We toured the Anne of Green Gables House, which has been decorated and restored based on the descriptions Lucy wrote in her books.   It was very small house, and sparsely decorated.   Then we meandered along the coast, not much action, as most tourists have left the island.  Dad was surprised at how many golf courses there are on the island.

Then we wandered up to Stanhope, where Dad's clients live.   We golfed at the Stanhope golf course and then had dinner with Ken and Heather at their beautiful home beside the sea.   Dinner was an amazing board salmon, yummy!  Will have to make it one day when the weather is better .. you really use a cedar plank, soaked in water overnite (so it doesn't burn) and then you put sea salt on the board.. and the salmon skin down.   Tender, sweet, and delicious!!!

Tomorrow we take a marathon (9 hour) drive from Charlottetown to Quebec City.

The Anne of Green Gables was a really ' hokey ' tourist thing and we were done in about 20 minutes. The old house had small rooms and small doors and low ceilings and made you feel like people back then lived in a doll house with little or no privacy. Oh well.

Got to Stanhope and met up with Ken & Heather, who had retired and moved back to PEI to live in their custom designed house. Beautiful views of the bay with fantastic sunsets. Tee time had been reserved and the Stanhope GC that was positioned right across the road from their house. Ken had already arranged for the game and the Golf carts and so it was all on him which was very generous of him. It looked like it was going to rain but we started to play anyways as we were  with our clubs and gear etc. It sprinkled off and on all during the game and some holes were positioned right on or along the water front. With the big wide fairways I got a chance to " grip it and rip it " and got a few very nice long drives off the tee. Shot an 89 and was very happy with this score which included a 6 on a par 3 over the water. Both Mom and I made our deposits into the water as well, oh well whats and couple of gold balls here or their.

Great dinner and a lot of laughs talking about family traditions and I never knew Ken's family goes back to 1913 when some on his ancestors first landed on this island. Wonderful time spent with clients who I have been working with for the past 20 years, when he worked for Imperial Oil back in the big T.O.  Back to Charlottetown for the night and a long day to Quebec City tomorrow which I'm not looking forward to.
