Thelma and Louise ....

I took the same route from Vancouver back Summerland that I took from Summerland to Vancouver.  

 While the fires (then) were away from the route that I would take if I went through Kamloops, I was more concerned about being heights challenged along the Coquihalla Highway.  Left Vancouver around 8:00 am and after several stops including Krauss Berry Farm to get blueberries and strawberries for Heather, and Stokes Corn for our dinner, I arrived in Summerland around 4:30 pm.
 How cool is this Corn Drive-Thru You don't even have to get out of your car!   This (Sparks) corn is grown in Chilliwack (awesome!), but these Corn Drive Thru's are plentiful around the area.

We had dinner at the Grizzley House (Salad, Cheese Fondue, Chicken/Beef Stone Grill, Tolberone Chocolate Fondue)  YUMMY!

On the 26th we went to Lake Louise and Columbia Ice Fields

Looking at the Chateau from up the Valley (3.2 kms to get here)  We walked 11,718 steps total that day (about 8.5km) !

If you look closely (especially at the bottom) you can see the people walking on the ice.  In the top 1/3 you can see the giant vehicles that transport the people to the ice field

We headed back to Summerland on the 27th ... packed up and I left on the 28th for Lethbridge



That's it for tonite.   Tomorrow I will post observations to Lethbridge (yesterday) ... and to Regina (today).  Going to do a shorter drive to Winnipeg (6 hours) tomorrow.

    OMG corn drive thru!! haha! That's awesome. Who knew those existed?! Mmmm Chinese dinner - I'd like to put my request in please! Haven't had one of those from you in a while either ;) Your B&B in Banff looked pretty quaint! Did you have wooden mallards in your room? Seems like a place that would lol. Mmmm fondue looks yummy too. Can I make 2 requests?! haha :D Those scenic pictures are amazing. Totally looks like you pulled those from Google. The water must have been freezing. Did you do the glacier walk or just check it out from a distance? Love the updates mum! Keep 'em coming. Olives xoxo

First Stop Timmins

They say that Shania Twain comes from Timmins.  It's hard to believe that someone so famous came from this little town of 41 thousand people! Timmins is a very pretty town on the Mattagami River.  It's the 4th largest city in Northeastern Ontario.  The economy here is based on natural resource extraction and is supported by industries related to lumbering and the mining of gold, zinc, copper, nickel and silver.    Now it makes sense;  some of the signs I saw on my drive up here "DANGER" "DO NOT ENTER"  "BLASTING ZONE!" are everwhere. The drive up Highway 11 was pretty uneventful even with all of the road construction.   This must be the year to dig up and repave the roads!   Looks like they are doing a major widening of Hwy 400 North of King Road.   Lots of construction on Highway 11. I'm surprised that more truckers aren't using it, rather it appears (because of the lack of traffic) they are either going up Hwy 144 or Hwy 1 North o...

Day 9: Saint John, NB to Sydney, NS

bj A beautiful sunny sunny day. Our road trip today is about 7 hours. Up the coast of NB, then over to NS, through Truro (where the Hurrican was headed yesterday), and on to Sydney. An uneventful trip, only critters we saw were Porcupine road kill. Long windy road up to Sydney; finally arrived around 4:00 ish and checked into our B&B. Our hosts Ann and Alex are a riot. Very, very funny, hospitable and the room was quite lovely with a very large bathroom. If/when we go back to Sydney we will definitely stay with them again. Dad discovered that the drive through the Cabot trail (one of the highlights of visiting Cape Breton Island) is about 6 hours. Way too long for us to attempt tomorrow as we are headed to PEI. Well, it will give us an excuse to come back. We had dinner at the Govenors Restaurant in town (Sydney is a very small town). Day 17 - Montreal to Toronto

bj Short post .. uneventful drive back to Toronto.  Grabbed coffee/bagels at Tim Horton's in Dorint, Grabbed sandwiches/coffee at Tim Horton's in Kingston. Did laundry (lots and lots and lots of it) ....will start to pack for the next trip tomorrow. Had a great road trip! Ate too much, drove lots (well, actually Dad did all the driving except for 1 stretch to Quebec City).   We'll have to do it again sometime :) Hugs !  Mum <3 Mike Nice to get home. Cleared the mailbox from 2 weeks of junk mail. Did laundry and had a couple of hours ironing. Then to bed and up early at 5:30 am to get to work the next day.
