December 8/9 - Toronto to London
Hi Fam
A beautiful sunny (and cold) day in London! Here I still sit in the British Airways lounge. Been here since 6:45 am (1:45 am Toronto time). Was very quiet (and really dark outside) when I arrived so I was able to do some work. This lounge is very large and filled with soft seating/bench couches. If I wanted to, I could stretch out and sleep. Alas, won't try that because I'll likely crash and not wake up in time for the next leg of my trip. I haven't seen (nor heard) Bill, Jeff, James yet. They should have arrived a couple of hours ago. They might be shopping (I'm trying to avoid changing $s in to Es -- I can't remember if Dad gave me back the Es I gave you for Spain.. I didn't look very hard, but I couldn't find them when was packing this A.M.). I'm sure I'll hear them when they arrive even though the entrance is way down and around the corner! I'm quite enjoying the quiet .. 3 Texans, this is going to be a very long trip! Next flight leaves at 2:00 pm local (9:00 am Toronto); it's only a 9h25 minute jaunt to Bangalore (or Bangularu) :( I can't wait to get on board (oh, in about 2h30 minutes from now) then it will be zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz all the way.
Just one amusing story to tell you thus far. I engaged my driver in conversation about India (he looked Indian:) He said he was originally from Punjab (only about 40 years ago!) Anyway, I told him that I agonized over what to pack for my feet (cows are sacred in India) as I didn't want to offend anyone because I was wearing leather shoes. He laughed and said, everyone wears leather shoes, carry leather purses, that's ok, they just don't like it when people kill cows. Huh? How else would you get the hide to make shoes and purses? I'm sure there are more cultural tidbits I'll be able to share during this trip..stay tuned!
